Now what?
The current economical situation has caused nothing short of an uproar in the job market. It’s been no cake walk for the unemployed, and frankly, it hasn’t been all rainbows and picnics for many of those fortunate enough to have jobs either. As more and more big name companies lay off and let go of loyal and qualified employees in order to make the proverbial ends meet, those still filling the spaces behind desks, in cubes, and otherwise are finding it more and more difficult to have faith in the job security to which they once clung.
This past week, The New York Times reported that over 650,000 jobs were lost in the past month and the unemployment rate has risen to a 25-year high of 8.1%. Even traditionally secure companies like I.B.M. have been hit by the economic storm as of late, and workers who seemed to be above the turmoil of the middle class and industry workers are fearing for their positions. With the sheer number of jobs lost, it’s no wonder that people – both the employed and not – are feeling the full effects of the times.
